Heating and ventilation installation

Collins & Aikman is a global leader in cockpit modules and automotive floor and acoustic systems and a leading supplier of instrument panels, automotive fabric, plastic-based trim, and convertible top systems.

As part of a programme to improve environmental systems at its UK factory in Elmdon, Solihull, an energy efficient replacement heating and ventilation system was required. In a competitive tender based on innovative design of the most appropriate energy efficient solution for the application, Admec was awarded the project.

Admec's winning design comprised a complete new environmental system including an indirect gas-fired heating and ventilation system for the main and auxiliary plastic moulding production areas, supplied by a high level gas distribution infrastructure. A building management system and all associated electrical control and power wiring also formed part of the project.

The innovative use of technology has ensured Collins & Aikman can achieve its environmental objectives for the buildings, including energy conservation, enhanced system performance, flexible system management, improvements in safety and environmental standards, as well as reduced operating and maintenance costs.

David Hughes, facilities manager at Collins & Aikman commented: "Admec's solution is a highly effective heating and ventilation that maintains comfort temperatures and good air quality within the production areas."

Client satisfaction with the initial project has led to considerable number of smaller M&E projects on the site.
